Excellent and timely advice! Some friends and I got turned around on a hot end of Summer hike a few years ago, and we ran out of water before we turned around. I had a 32 oz Naglene, and they each had their own bottle, but we miscalculated how much we'd need. Thankfully, we were following a creek, and I had a water filter straw in my pack so we could refill our bottles and drink it safely. If it wasn't for that creek, though, we'd have been in real trouble. Now I always take more than I think I'll need.
